CIEH Boards and Committees

Board of Trustees

A charity focused decision making board of ten Trustees. The Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring that the CIEH meets its charitable aims and legal obligations and provides a more focused and swifter decision making process working with the Chief Executive, Executive Management Team and other advisers including the Chairman of the Assembly of Representatives.

The Board of Trustees is supported in its work by three committees:

Risk and Audit Committee

This committee is advisory and its function is to review, monitor, evaluate, analyse and report to the Board of Trustees on any risks arising from the organisation’s activities. It provides important checks and balances and a scrutiny role for the operation of the charity. The committee is made up of five members specifically recruited for their skills and expertise.

Professional Standards and Policy Committee

This will provide a holistic focus for all professional matters and consolidating the issues and recommendations to the Board of Trustees. The committee brings together information and evidence and agrees policy positions for ratification by the Board of Trustees. This committee will be made up of 12 members who have been selected for their specialist skills and expertise. Five of these members will be elected directly from the Assembly of Representatives.

Qualification Standards Committee

This committee will deal with all matters relating to the operation of the CIEH professional examinations, practical training assessment accreditation of courses by the CIEH and vocational qualifications. One proposal that is still being considered is to combine the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) function into the Qualifications Standards Committee. This committee will be made up of eight members specifically recruited for their skills and expertise.
