Criteria for applications for funding 2008-09 and other information
1. As a general rule no sum more than £250 will normally be granted (and until the fund has grown). Any increase in available funding will be publicised by the CIEH.
2. Submissions will be assessed by a panel comprising the President, Chief Executive of the CIEH and one of the CIEH representatives on the IFEH Council.
3. Applications may be from EHPs who are members of a body that is in turn a full member of the IFEH. Applications will also be accepted from non-EHPs who have the support of two members of the CIEH or who are affiliated to the IFEH e.g. academic associate members.
4. The application must relate to a specific project that will enhance environmental health capacity within a country or community. The project shall be such that it addresses loss of EH capacity which may result from:
- a. natural environmental disaster;
- b. environmental damage which may or may not be the result of human activity; or
- c. political upheaval.
5. The application may also relate to seed funding for the development of a proposal for a project which is to be submitted for funding e.g.to the Department for International Development or other funding body. In such cases the application shall include an indication with evidence as to the likely success of this bid and be supported by two suitable independent references from those who have considered the proposal.
6. The application may be to assist with travel where other funding has been made a available for a project i.e. to supplement this funding
7. Information to be included in application:
- a. Name and contact details of applicant (and if necessary the organisation on behalf of which the application is being made)
- b. Details of the project in outline (not more than 500 words) setting out the background to the project (why it is needed), the aims and objectives including an assessment as to how it will increase EH capacity and how the funding will assist
- c. Any supporting evidence including brief statements of support from two other organisations or EHPs (in addition to information required at (5)).
- d. Signed statement that the money will be used only for the purpose for which the grant is given and an agreement to submit a brief report to the fund on how the money was spent and the actual benefit that arose from the funding within 12 months of the grant being awarded.
8. Submissions can be made to the CIEH Emergency & Reconstruction Fund, CIEH, Chadwick Court, 15 Hatfields, London SE1 8DJ. Preferably submissions should be made electronically in a pdf file attached to an e-mail sent through the contact form. If made electronically an e-mail acknowledging receipt will be sent. If no acknowledgement is received it will indicate that the e-mail has not been delivered.
9. Applications in the normal course of events (other than dire emergencies) will be considered as soon as possible after the four following dates :
- a. 1 February 2009
- b. 1 May 2009
- c. 1 August 2009
- d. 1 November 2009
10. The decision of the panel is final. However it will be possible for previously unsuccessful applications to be re-submitted and for applications to be made for further support for projects for which an award from the fund has already be granted. Where an application is unsuccessful reasons for the decision will be given to the applicant in writing.
