BBC radio presenter, Charlotte Smith (Farming Today and Countryfile), will chair the CIEH’s conference An Unhealthy Climate – a call for action and changing behavior

Speakers will address the major public health challenges and dilemmas facing the Government and public health practitioners.

The conference will take the form of a half day ‘question time’ event providing delegates with the opportunity to meet and question speakers, to network with colleagues and to help  put health at the heart of the climate change debate.

Charlotte Smith will be joined by an eminent panel of key speakers including:

  • Professor Tim Lang, City University, one of the UK’s foremost experts on food policy and safety issues, who will be talking about future food safety and security issues
  • Justin McCracken, Chief Executive of the Health Protection Agency
  • Dame Deirdre Hutton, Chair of the Food Standards Agency
  • David Pencheon, Director of the NHS Sustainable Development Unit
  • Paul Bettison, Chairman of the Local Government Association Environment Board
  • Paul Kelly, Director of Corporate Affairs at ASDA

The panel will be joined by CIEH President Dr Stephen Battersby who will ask the speakers to highlight the 5 key public health challenges for them or their organisations as a result of climate change.

A formal dinner for speakers and delegates will be held on Wednesday 19 November at 15Hatfields - the CIEH's newly refurbished, eco friendly conferences and events venue. Places for dinner are limited and available on a first come first served basis.

The conference will also feaure online webcasts of the event, individual speakers and the debate, available from this web site both before and after the day. This new medium is a great way for people who are unable to attend the conference to watch the debates and listen to the discussions of key decision makers and experts.
