Delivering effective equality strategies
Wednesday 10 December 2008 – London
EHPs play an important role in delivering strong equality and diversity strategies to guard against discrimination on the grounds of age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, race, gender and disability.
This interactive one-day conference took a closer look at the new Government White Paper, “Communities in Control,” and the importance of Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs).
By attending, delegates were able to learn how EAIs can enable individuals and teams to identify, remove or reduce barriers, in order to achieve greater social cohesion and succeed on community based initiatives. This conference also engaged delegates on good practice with the help of case studies and interactive workshops.
Key outcomes:
- Gain a greater insight to the new Government White Paper ‘Communities in Control’ including the environmental health implications
- Better understand the importance of EIAs and be able to confidently apply the EIA toolkit to the specialist concerns of EHP teams
- Build a greater understanding of the legal framework and context, including public health duties
- Take away practical strategies for mainstreaming equality and diversity
- Exchange ideas with peers, through in-depth discussion
