The Legal Implications of Drains and Sewers 2010

Drains Large

Explaining sewerage law and clarifying your legal knowledge

Back by popular demand, this one-day workshop explored the complex legal framework concerning drains and sewers and its impacts on EHPs across the UK.

Recent cases from the last few years have highlighted the confusion amongst the profession and sewerage undertakers, raising the urgent need for clear definitions of the issues and good practice guidance.

In order to support EHPs with these difficult concerns, this workshop explained sewerage law from an EHP perspective to help successfully address even the most challenging of sewerage and drain enforcement issues with confidence and clarity.

Aims and outcomes:

  • Gain a full update on current developments in this area of law
  • Be able to apply the legal framework of sewerage law with an understanding of the issues and situations faced
  • Assess whether the announced transfer of private drains and sewers to the sewerage undertakers will provide some solution
  • Appreciate the appropriate notices for different circumstances
  • Liaise more effectively on sewer problems with sewerage undertakers
  • Encourage good practice in dealing with problematic sewers and drains
  • Provide an update on the progress of transferring private sewers to water sewerage companies
