Overview
This one-day conference was designed to provide EHPs and Environmental Health Technicians with the best tools to enforce food safety.
The programme explored the burden of proof required in criminal, as well as civil arenas to demonstrate whether a business is adequately controlling food safety.
In addition, the event looked at the pitfalls in investigating and preparing a successful case, and considered what drives safety within the food industry.
Outcomes of the event
By attending this conference, delegates were able to:
- Acquire an up-to-date understanding of the legal aspects of food contamination from both criminal and civil perspectives
- Review microbiological criteria, and become better equipped to make unchallenged enforcement decisions based on laboratory results
- Investigate the sufficiency of foreign body detection systems

- Understand likely evidential requirements in outbreaks of food poisoning in criminal and civil arenas
- Understand the drivers of commercial decisions about food safety and hygiene
