
A review of occupational health, undertaken by Professor Dame Carol Black, the National Director of Health and Work, was published at the end of March. It outlines proposals to make radical changes to the UK’s approach to occupational health and work. This builds on the Government’s strategy ‘Health Work and Wellbeing’ and contributes to the welfare reform strategy.
The Government’s main drive is to improve awareness and performance level of occupational health for employees as well as their wellbeing.
Occupational health has become an urgent issue, carrying a heavy load on the Government’s budget as well as on businesses’.
According to HSE statistics 2006/2007, 36 million working days were lost to occupational ill health with an estimated cost to the British economy of £13 billion every year.
This workshop aimed to tackle key problems in assessing employee health and development of staff with a main focus was on occupational health.
Amongst other subjects, this workshop covered the Government publication on occupational health at work as well as the main Government review findings and the recommendations being taken forward by the Government and others.
