Ken has 23 years experience in local government. A graduate Environmental Health Officer, Ken worked at Liverpool and Bradford before moving to Barnsley in 2002 to manage Environmental Protection. In 2005 he was appointed Assistant Director and has responsibility for Regulatory Services (Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing and Bereavement Services).
Ken led a ‘proof of concept’ project under Government’s Local eGov programme and is a current board member of the Nomad Forum. He chairs a cross-authority mobile working group at Barnsley and has spoken on the subject at numerous conferences, national events and road shows. He is currently leading the ReGS Project, implementing mobile and flexible working across the range of Regulatory Services at Barnsley and Sheffield and sharing learning with other local authorities across the UK.
Ken sits on several national and regional committees and has advised government on Better Regulation and the application of technology to enable data sharing between regulatory agencies. He has recently launched a nomad north programme office and is establishing a core group of interested change champions to promote this work across the north of England.
