CIEH EH Emergency and Reconstruction Fund launched

The CIEH President has launched an Environmental Health Emergency and Reconstruction Fund to help fund environmental health relief projects across the globe and to rebuild environmental health capacity in the longer term.

The focus of the fund is to provide financial support to practitioners who are providing sustainable environmental health relief solutions. For example we know of a CIEH colleague who has been working in a Rwandan village to improve sanitation.

So if you are a practitioner who needs financial support from improving sanitation and local water supplies to promoting food safety or encouraging sustainable living, perhaps this fund can help.

While the UK is experiencing a recession, we remain a rich country where most people have access to the basic essentials of life like clean water and safe food. If there is a natural disaster or political upheaval that leads to a breakdown in public health we have the resources to help people and communities recover. This is not the case for millions around the world where 852 million people do not have enough to eat, 1.3 billion have no safe water, 2 billion have no access to electricity (Christian Aid) and at least 2.6 billion people – some 41 percent of the global population - do not have access to latrines or any sort of basic sanitation facilities (WHO).

To find out more about how you can donate to the fund please visit: www.justgiving.com/cieh. If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid will let us reclaim tax on donations you have made to us. The UK government's Gift Aid scheme means that, for every £10 you give, we can claim an extra £2.80.

If you would like to apply for funding please read the criteria.

The fund is managed and maintained by the CIEH.
