Food Champion Award winners announced

Supported by the CIEH, this year's Food Safety Week (FSW) focused on the actions that people can take at home to prevent food poisoning from Camplyobacter: cooking thoroughly and avoiding cross-contamination.

CIEH Principal Policy Officer Jenny Morris attended the FSW House of Commons reception.

Welcoming guests to the reception Minister for Public Health Reception Ann Milton MP highlighted the health impacts of poor food safety and a poor diet. The Minister praised the work of the FSA, EHPs, LAs, industry and supporting partners in improving standards and said that public health was a key priority for the new Government.

The Food Champion Award winners were also announced. These awards recognise excellence in local authority led projects to improve food safety, diet and health. This year’s winners are Norfolk County Council (diet and health) and Newcastle under Lyme Council (food safety).

The CIEH is a partner in both Food Safety Week and the Food Champion Awards.
