The CIEH is seeking the view of local authorities’ to assist in the development of the national Scores on the Doors scheme.
The FSA Board voted for a six tier scheme in December last year and is now working with local authorities, consumers and businesses to develop the scheme for England and Wales.
Despite having established a stakeholder group to represent interested parties, it has not been possible to agree bandings, as derived from Annex 5 of the Food Law Code of Practice, for the top tier of the scheme or for “broad compliance”.
CIEH Principal Policy Officer Jenny Morris said:
“We believe that a good Scores on the Doors scheme will provide great benefits for all parties. As with all things the devil is in the detail and compromises will be needed on all sides if we are to agree a “national scheme”.
“The CIEH does not want this to fail and so will be working hard to find solutions. We would welcome views on the matter from all members.”
The FSA has asked for further views. A letter describing the issues and an update on progress to date can be found here.
The CIEH believes that a single national scheme is best for consumers, business and regulators.
While the deadline for direct responses to the FSA has passed, the CIEH is represented on the steering group and is seeking the views of members to be voiced at the next group meeting. Please forward any comments to Principal Policy Officer Jenny Morris.
