New guidance on the humane use of rodent glue boards

The CIEH, as a member of the Pest Management Alliance, has helped draw up a new code of practice on the humane use of rodent glue boards.

Believing that glue boards remain an important last option when all other control methods have proved ineffective, the new guidance follows consultations with with Defra and Natural England. The guidance should be adopted for use by members and replaces the previous British Pest Control Association (BPCA) Code of Practice for the use of rodent glue boards.

The pest management industry in the UK recognises that, in the hands of untrained persons, glue boards can be used inappropriately and in a manner that can become inhumane. It shares the concern of animal welfare groups that glue boards are readily available for untrained persons to buy either in retail premises or on the internet.

The Pest Management Alliance consists of the British Pest Control Association, the CIEH, the National Pest Technicians Association and UK Pest Controllers Organisation.
