15Hatfields, the CIEH’s events venue, had their activities assessed dating back to 2012 and scored highly in their energy management and purchasing policies and practices, efforts to support organic and local producers, implementing robust waste reduction and recycling and their overall management approach to sustainability.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK, recognising businesses that have improved sustainability by implementing practices that help the environment.

To achieve an accreditation, businesses are graded by a qualified Assessor against a rigorous set of criteria which cover a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and social involvement and communication.

Businesses that receive a Green Tourism Award means they work responsibly, ethically and sustainably, help contribute to their community, reduces their impact on the environment and aims to be accessible and inclusive to all visitors and staff.

Jon Proctor, from Green Tourism, said: “15 Hatfields is a leading venue in environmental and sustainable matters and they put forward an outstanding entry into Green Tourism.

“They were worthy winners of the GOLD award with potential to get an even higher score next time – congratulations.”

This was the first time 15Hatfields had nominated themselves for an assessment by Green Tourism and Warren Campbell, General Manger of 15Hatfields, said:

“We have always known that we are a leading sustainable events venue and I am extremely proud that 15Hatfields received this award as sustainable practices have been at the heart of everything we do ever since we began in 2008.

“Every single one of the team works hard to implement and drive our sustainable practices, so this award is not only for the venue but also for the staff that live and breathe sustainability making us become one of the greenest venues in the UK.”
