Accredited Associate membership

In addition to the benefits of Associate membership, this grade demonstrates that the member is dedicated to continuous career development within the field of environmental health. Accredited Associate membership can be used as a route to full qualification as an EHP.

Accredited Associate members must undertake at least 10 hours of Continuing Professional Development per year.

Accredited Associate members may use the designatory letters ACIEH in their professional correspondence.

There are two routes to apply for Accredited Associate membership:

Route A

Accredited Associate membership can be accessed immediately by people who have passed one of the following Environmental Health Registration Board qualifications:

  • The EHRB Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection
  • The EHRB Health and Safety Enforcement Diploma
  • The EHRB Environmental Protection Diploma
  • The EHRB Housing Enforcement Diploma


Route B

People holding other suitable qualifications may be able to access Accredited Associate membership via the Accredited Associate Assessment.

A suitable qualification for Route B would be a relevant degree or other relevant qualification (of at least the level of a diploma of higher education).

The relevant qualifications which have been approved so far include:

A BSc or MSc in:

  • Environmental Health
  • Environmental Protection
  • Environmental Studies
  • Food Science and Technology
  • Health and Safety (management)
  • Housing
  • Public Health

Or:

  • Diploma of the Institute of Acoustics
  • HND/HNC in Environmental Health
  • NEBOSH Diploma
  • IFST Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection
  • Chartered Institute of Housing Diploma (Technical Level and Higher Level)
