Proposed CIEH and C&I SIG EH consultants forum

Background

As a result of discussions and agreement at the last Board meeting it is proposed that SIG develop a new form of activity for members. I have proposed we offer members “sector specific initiatives and 2 pilot two regional meeting were offered.

Andrew Colthurst suggested that his Industry Sector would be interested in resolving issues around Building Project Noise in order to arrive at suitable compliance standards that could form an Industry guide with the possibility of it being represented to Enforcement colleagues.

I propose a second pilot to in the form of a business consultancy forum. This proposal outlines my thoughts as to how such a forum might be constituted and work in practice.

Forum target market

Members in a “sole trader” situation or private practice who wish to develop their consultancy business to maximise their opportunity. I would also be targeted at the next stage of business - partnerships and small company businesses operating employing there first consultants or those working with Associates.

Initially it would be those undertaking H&S and Food Safety consultancy however other forums could be rolled out later for other EH specialist areas which might include: Housing, Contaminated Land, Environmental and Sustainability matters etc etc.

Purpose of the proposed forum

  • To support the improvement in business skills including business plan development, business financing and cash flow management, pricing strategy and costings analysis, marketing and sales strategy development, client relationship management, personnel development and employment practice, associate contacts, intellectual property and copyright, strategic thinking etc etc.
  • To share best practice in providing successful consultancy services
  • To discuss and promote ethical business practices
  • To network in order to develop resources, capabilities and expertise in order to promote business amongst members
  • To resolve technical matters and potential conflicts from new legislation and current enforcement strategies and be the voice of C&I SIG on Safety and Food Compliance strategies
  • To secure additional CPD
  • To provide a social forum within the profession
  • To promote mentoring of new consultants in order to develop their success within the profession
