Developing an East of England International Link – would you like to be involved?
22 February 2012

The CIEH International Special Interest Group (ISIG) aims to encourage individual members to actively engage in international environmental health. This is commonly achieved by forging strong partnerships and friendships with environmental health departments in developing countries, sharing information, education and where possible fund raising so that work can be carried to improve sanitation and provision of clean water.

A number of CIEH regions have set up links with a particular developing country. These have achieved significant success in improving the lives of people in villages and communities all over Africa. Examples of the work carried out include providing clean water sources, toilets, education on personal hygiene and the exchange of information. In addition, international fellows visit and are hosted by the link / region so that they can experience Environmental Health in practice in the UK.

The East of England Region is currently researching ways in which we could create and support a similar link. At present the project is in its infancy, but who knows, maybe in the future we could be talking about our achievements similar to those above, having made a massive difference to the lives of many!

If you would be interested in getting involved in this kind of project please contact the East of England RMB’s ISIG representative, Ian Wheeler on ian.wheeler@north-norfolk.gov.uk who will be able to provide you with more information.
