Q: What do I gain from CIEH membership?

A: CIEH membership offers a host of real benefits to you. First and foremost, the CIEH is one of the strongest and most respected voices in the international environmental health arena. Over the past century and a half, the CIEH has played a major role in advancing and promoting the public health agenda. As a result, it has been instrumental in securing improvements to health and wellbeing – both in the UK and abroad.

Our research, views and guidance materials are valued by governments and practitioners across world. In the UK, the CIEH responds to a whole host of government consultations. We now also have a successful commercial arm that promotes the preventative public health agenda to businesses.

CIEH membership is a mark of your professionalism and a measure of your commitment to public health.

Q: Where can I find out more about Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?

A: CPD is a quality assurance scheme designed to ensure that CIEH members are regularly updated on the latest developments in the environmental health arena. All CIEH members have to undertake 20 hours or more of CPD a year. We have a section on our website devoted to CPD.  Please read it thoroughly and if you feel you need some assistance or clarification we would be very happy to help you.

Q: Where can I progress from Graduate Membership?

A: Graduate membership of the CIEH could open up new career opportunities for you. You could:

  • achieve further CIEH accreditation such as Chartered status
  • become a Voting member
  • work as an EHP in the UK and elsewhere in the world
  • secure professional support to entry on the UK Public Health Register (being on the register would make you a Fellow of the CIEH, and demonstrate that you are equivalent to a Consultant in Public Health, or Medical Officer of Health)

Of course to achieve any of the above, you would need to fulfil the rigorous criteria and standards set down by the CIEH.
