    Background invite on event
On the 27 March the Department of Health published the ‘Healthy Lives, Healthy People: Towards a workforce strategy for the public health system’ document for consultation. The document sets out a strategic vision for a workforce that will contribute to the future public health system, starting with this first phase of work seeking to understand the current workforce and identify future challenges with particular emphasis on the supply and development of key personnel. The Department of Health are seeking views to help identify and unlock the potential of the people who are responsible for improving the population’s health and wellbeing. The consultation is endorsed by the Local Government Association, which is encouraging local authorities to take part in the consultation.
To contribute to this process, NHS South of England (West) are holding a consultation event to collect the views of as wide a range of stakeholders as possible. The event will take place at Somerset County Cricket Club in Taunton on the morning of Monday 18 June 2012, finishing with lunch.
The event will consist of an introductory presentation giving an overview of the proposals followed by facilitated group discussions to explore the consultation questions. Feedback from the event will be collated into a south west report and will be submitted to the Department of Health by the consultation deadline of 29 June 2012.
