In 2002 a project was carried out by the Health Development Agency, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, to support the environmental health profession in developing a strategic vision for its contribution to health development and wellbeing. The project was led by staff of the Health Development Agency’s Capacity and Capability Team concerned with exploring and developing the capacity of the local government workforce to deliver public health by considering their skills, education and training, workforce development and organisation/group development.
This strategic vision statement has enabled the CIEH to have a positive influence in the realm of environmental health especially in re-engaging with public health and modernising professional practice.
