New Guidance on Bioavailability

Title:  New Guidance on Bioavailability
Publication month: June 2009
ISBN:
Topics:
Environmental protection
Type:
Professional Practice
Summary:

The CIEH has today published a Professional Practice Note offering advice on the use of bioavailability data in human health risk assessment reports.

Whether under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act or in the planning context, reliance on estimates of contaminant intakes are likely to over-estimate health risks unless their bioavailability is taken into account. Bioavailability data are, however, often misunderstood or misused and this latest Practice Note, released to accompany training on the topic, is aimed at preventing that.
