London Prepares
The final test series for the Olympic Park took place on the 2 - 8 May 2012. The Environmental Health Volunteer Team used this as an opportunity to test out Games time procedures and approaches. 34 Team Leader volunteers took part on different days and we were able to visit many of the food units that were open on site.
Visitor numbers varied from a few thousand to over 35,000 spectators. The Olympic Park also hosted the School Games 2012 with over 26, 000 visitors and competitors Walking around the Park we were able to familiarise ourselves with the location and site layout. It took over 30 minutes to walk from one end to the other and this was with minimal visitors!
For the food operations this was also a chance to set up and get ready for Games time service. While some set ups were temporary for the test events only, it provided a good understanding of the challenges that need addressing before the July opening ceremony. With the Olympic flame now on UK soil we are all now on the starting blocks!
