Environmental health practitioners are in the front line when it comes to dealing with anti-social behaviour. They are often the first people to receive a phone call from a distressed resident or the first tip-off from a community warden. As experts in the field they can provide vital evidence that can help bring perpetrators to book. They are also an important conduit between residents and other practitioners to ensure that action is taken swiftly and is publicised.
The aim of this Toolkit is to help them understand the issue of anti-social behaviour and their role in tackling it. It sets out the law relating to the management of anti-social behaviour and the powers at the disposal of EHPs. It offers EHPs support to take action, with case studies demonstrating successful interventions across a range of community settings. It provides guidance on building effective partnerships, which are the cornerstone for successfully dealing with anti-social behaviour, and advice on problem-solving techniques. Finally, it looks at strategy and organisational issues, performance management and local authority priority setting.
