Background
A new framework for professional education and development was launched on 11 November 2011. The framework includes changes to the curriculum and qualification process, post graduate professional development and technical qualifications previously delivered by Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB).
The framework is designed to prepare practitioners for the new opportunities facing the profession and incorporates many of the proposed changes to public health delivery.
Key features of the new qualification process include:
- Acquiring knowledge and skills-based competencies in public health – the principles of public health will now be incorporated in all accredited degree programmes
- Affirming the general practice route to qualification with students requiring competences in all five elements of environmental health: food safety, environmental protection, housing and health, health and safety and public health
- Replacing the Experiential Learning Portfolio (ELP) with a new Portfolio of Professional Practice (PPP)
- Introducing new professional examinations
The CIEH’s intention is to complete all changes during 2012.
