Work-based learning and the ELP

Whichever way you choose to study – full time, part time or distance learning – work-based learning is an integral part of becoming a qualified practitioner.

In providing evidence of work-based learning you need to successfully complete either the Experiential Learning Portfolio (ELP) or the PT Logbook. Students enrolled on the 1997 curriculum are required to complete either the ELP or the Logbook, while students enrolled on the 2003 curriculum must complete the ELP.

The CIEH has produced a guidance document to support the ELP  Success in Experiential Learning – The CIEH Requirements for Work-Based Experiential Learning and Your Guide to Fulfilling Them.

Universities normally help students to find work-based learning placements, and opportunities are also advertised in local newspapers.

Updates for the PT Logbook

Recent legislation has meant that some of the guidance and instructions contained in the three PT logbooks is outdated and misleading. Students are advised to review the updates for the PT Logbooks.
