Shale gas and fracking debate

Publication Date: 15th August 2014

Subject: Environmental protection

On 21 July 2014 Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) published a report which reviewed current evidence across a number of issues associated with shale gas extraction by hydraulic fracturing (fracking). These included environmental and public health aspects and socio-economic considerations.

The CIEH issued a media release which can be found here.

In response to the report there were criticisms by some supporters of fracking, and SGR and CIEH have now produced a rebuttal of their main concerns which can be found here.

“Shale gas and fracking: examining the evidence” can be found here. The report is authored by Gwen Harrison, Stuart Parkinson and Gary McFarlane.
