Reactivating trainers and centres

To maintain the quality and integrity of our qualifications the CIEH is introducing a charge to reactivate trainers and centres who have not delivered CIEH qualifications for more than two years. This charge will be £100 for trainers and £200 for centres.

We will also require evidence from the trainer of relevant qualifications and engagement in the subject field during the two years of “inactivity.”

Refresher qualification reminder

A note to all trainers delivering refresher qualifications, results will not be processed unless candidates supply evidence of successful completion of the equivalent award. For example candidates wishing to complete the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering/Manufacturing/Retail Refresher must have passed the equivalent Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering / Manufacturing / Retail qualification and provide proof of this with them when they attend the course.
Please note that you cannot sit a Level 2 Refresher qualification if you have sat an older qualification such as the Foundation or the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate. For further details please check the “How to Deliver” for the specific refresher qualification you are looking to deliver

Postal delivery fees for April 2011

Due to increasing fuel tariffs, the CIEH will regrettably be applying a delivery fee for training packs which accompany CIEH centre registration. This will be effective 1st April 2011. The fee will apply per order, not per subject. So for example, if an order consists of a registration request for four different subjects, all of which would include a pack, the charge will only apply once.

UK destinations will be charged £3.80, £10 to all European destinations and a charge of £45 for the rest of the world. All charges exclude VAT.

VAT increase reminder

The VAT increase to 20% has taken effect from 1 January 2011. This increase has been reflected in all CIEH products and services (except for those which are VAT exempt).

30 day payment terms

All invoices issued after 1 January 2011 will be subject to revised 30 day payment terms.

Summary Sheets

We are no longer sending out packs of summary sheets automatically when you place an order for exam papers. To ensure you receive the correct number of required summary sheets, please ensure you clearly state your requirements when speaking to the CIEH Sales Team.

Summary sheets are NO LONGER sent out in packs of 10. Instead they are sent out individually when requested to save on waste.

New trainer registration requirements for CIEH level 1 and 2 qualifications

The subject knowledge criterion for trainer registrations has been updated. From September 2010, trainers will only need a CIEH Level 3 qualification or equivalent when registering to deliver CIEH level 1 and level 2 qualifications. CIEH Level 4 qualifications or equivalent will remain the minimum requirement for those wishing to deliver CIEH Level 3 or 4 qualifications.

What is a Unique Learner Number (ULN)?

If your candidates are studying CIEH qualifications as part of a Diploma, then the ULN is important. This is a 10-digit identifier for anyone over the age of 14 enrolled on a UK education or training programme. Every Diploma candidate must have a ULN so that results are posted to the correct learner in the Diploma Aggregation Service.

ULNs are issued and held by the Learner Registration Service (LRS). The ULN must be included on the 'CIEH Diploma Form' so that the candidate receives credits for the CIEH qualification towards their Diploma.

Answer Information Sheets

Please ensure that Answer Information Sheets are filled in legibly and are fully completed by candidates. Not doing so, will delay the release of your examination results.

Trainer registration requirements

To help us process your registrations forms, please ensure you provide us with the required documentation.

To become a CIEH registered trainer on applicant must demonstrate he/she has attained a:

  • high standard of certified knowledge in the specific subject area
  • suitable training or teaching qualification
  • minimum of three years’ related work experience

The requirements for training/teaching qualifications are the same for each qualification, so once you provide evidence of satisfying this, you will not be asked to do so again except if you seek to extend your registration to include a new qualification three years or more after your initial registration.

Then you will be asked to provide a statement outlining how you have kept your training/teaching skills up- to-date in the intervening years.

Date of birth

It is essential that candidates provide their date of birth on the answer information sheets and CARs. We need this information to identify, and distinguish between candidates in our records. For example, for security purposes, to identify the correct candidate when we receive a request for a replacement certificate.

First aid CARs

It is imperative that trainers complete the candidate assessment records (CARS) properly for the Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work. Trainers must:

  • assess each candidate’s performance against each of the assessment criteria and indicate—by checking the ’Yes’ or ‘No’ boxes— if the criteria have been met
  • complete the comments section in support of their assessments
  • indicate the result on the front page of the CAR. The result will only be valid if the marking grid and comments section are complete and the trainer signs the CAR

Candidates must:

  • meet all the assessment criteria to be awarded a pass
  • sign and date the CAR to confirm they have been assessed

In short, all sections on the CAR must be completed.

Examination feedback

As CIEH qualifications are transferred onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) we are working on a project that will enable the examination processing team to provide feedback to candidates who have failed an MCQ examination. All the questions on future examination papers will be mapped to the relevant QCF unit so we will be able to generate feedback to individual candidates who have failed to achieve a learning outcome. Please note this will only be possible on future examination papers so use up any you may now have in stock.
