The CIEH Procedure Manual contains all the information registered centres and trainers need to comply with the CIEH quality assurance system.
As a registered centre and/or trainer, it is your responsibility to acquaint yourself with contents of the Procedure Manual and to keep abreast of any changes that are made.
The Procedure Manual is reviewed annually and the new edition supplied in conjunction with the centre and/or trainer agreements. Your centre and/or trainer agreement rests on the assumption that you have read the Procedure Manual and will comply with the requirements contained therein.
2012 edition
Many of the changes to the 2012 Procedure Manual have been made in response to new requirements arising from the new Ofqual General Conditions of Recognition, which came into force in May 2011.
So, for example, centres are now required to have:
- a workforce of appropriate size and competence to undertake the delivery of the qualification
- sufficient managerial and other resources to efficiently and effectively undertake the provision of the qualification
- procedures in place to ensure the protection of the candidates’ interests in the event of withdrawal of the centre.
You are, therefore, advised to:
- download a copy of the 2012 CIEH Procedure Manual
- ensure that everyone who works for the centre has read and understood the contents
- develop and/or revise centre procedures and documentation to ensure continued compliance.
The main changes to the 2012 Procedure Manual are as follows:
Use of CIEH name, logo and unit and qualification titles
As many trainers wish to advertise themselves separately from a centre, a new section on the use of the registered trainer logo has been included.
Training delivery
The addition of sections requiring centres to have procedures for equality and diversity, complaints and appeals. These procedures must be included in the pre-course information given to all candidates before training delivery commences.
The centre is responsible for all trainers who work under the centre number and, therefore, must now conduct annual appraisals and observations of training and retain appropriate records of this activity.
Management of certificates
Certificates can only be used by candidates to make claims with respect to the scope for which certification has been granted. Certificates may not be used for any other purpose – for example, as images on a centre’s or trainer’s website to advertise training delivery.
Centres are now required to dispatch certificates to candidates within 10 days of receiving the certificates from the CIEH (please note: non-payment of training fees is not a reason to withhold the certificates).
Appeals
References are included to all the types of appeals within the other procedures.
Sanctions
A new ‘Procedure for sanctions, to be invoked in the case of non-compliance with procedures, has been added to the manual.
