The first housing network conference of its kind combines national regulations and local case studies. The event focuses on housing updates and innovative case studies used by councils across the country to tackle regional issues. While providing delegates the opportunity to upskill, network and stay informed on the latest developments in housing and health.

Hear MHCLG provide an update on the private sector housing reforms and industry experts share the latest finding from the HHSRS review. Examine RSM UK Consultation’s finding on better enforcing the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) in the private rented sector. Anna Clarke a housing expert with over 15 years’ experience in research and consultancy in the field of housing and social policy. She joined RSM Economic Consultancy in 2018, having previously worked at the Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research, within Cambridge University, where she led a range of research projects into housing policy. Her areas of expertise include regulation of the private rented sector and she has led work looking at issues such as rent controls, affordability, causes of evictions and the impact of tax changes for landlords for clients including the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Shelter and buy-to-let lenders.

Alan Davies is a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner and Consulting Lead with RH Environmental Ltd, specialising in housing conditions and standards. Before joining RHE he spent 20 years in local government working in housing. For the last 7 years Alan has been a specialist author and reviewer for RIAMS and since 2017 has presented training courses for housing professionals in both the public and private sectors. Alan was a member of the RHE team which engaged and delivered on the HHSRS scoping study for the MHCLG. The scoping study determined the scale of review that is needed for the HHSRS.

Anees Mank, is a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner with over 21 years’ experience in housing and regeneration, including managing local authority affordable housing, homelessness prevention, housing enforcement and housing renewal teams. Anees has been particularly successful in attracting funding, building partnerships and investing in innovative empty homes, energy efficiency, fuel poverty and home adaptation projects across Greater Manchester and currently manages the award-winning Warm Homes Oldham service. Academic evaluation of these schemes have shown statistically significant improvements in physical and mental health and wellbeing, which has reduced demand and costs for health and social care services.

Tamara Sandoul is the Policy Manager at CIEH. Having joined the Institute in early 2017, her work has largely focussed on housing policy. Tamara has previously held a number of health-related policy and public affairs roles, including at Breast Cancer Now, British Lung Foundation and the Department of Health. At the British Lung Foundation, Tamara was joint lead on the award winning campaign to ban smoking in cars carrying children, which was made into law in 2014.
