Following the announcement of the 2016 Budget, Anne Godfrey, Chief Executive of the CIEH, said:

Budget “The Chancellor continually said that this year’s budget was all about making Britain fit for the future and our members are in a great position to help make this a reality.

“Environmental health professionals working across the private and public spheres help create a level playing field to enable business growth, a key goal of this Administration, and our members have an important role to play when it comes to implementing the Government’s ambitious devolution programme.

“The introduction of a levy on the soft drinks industry to reduce sugar in their products is a welcome development and something we wholeheartedly support to improve the nation’s health – especially in children.

“Local government budgets were thankfully untouched following cuts in recent years and we will continue to engage with the Government on behalf of our members to ensure environmental health is not seen as a burden but as an enabler of growth and essential in improving health and wellbeing.”
