New food safety training being delivered by CIEH

The CIEH is gearing up to deliver a new food safety training course for Environmental Health Practitioners (EHPs) in October after winning a contract from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) earlier this year.

Food EHO

The brand new one-day workshop is taking place on 1 October in London and delegates attending can expect to improve their understanding of the microbiological criteria of foodstuffs and the requirements of the shelf-life of ready-to-eat food relating to listeria monocytogenes.

Training will be delivered by Kaarin Goodburn MBE, a Chartered Scientist specialising in chilled food science, technology and regulatory affairs, as well as Una Kane, a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner specialising in food and safety matters and Environmental Health Manager for the Food and Safety Team of Rother and Wealden District Councils.

The workshop is free to attend and is suitable for EHPs working in local authorities in England, with space limited to one member of staff per council. Additional places may become available and to register your interest or ask to be put on the waiting list, contact the CIEH FSA training team.

The CIEH is delivering a raft of workshops to improve understanding and excellence in food safety after being awarded a prestigious a three-year contract from the FSA to deliver training for EHPs working for local authorities.

Prior to the course on 1 October, the CIEH is delivering two other courses, including: reducing the risks from E coli in small and medium sized businesses on 24 September; and controls for safe sous vide cooking on 28 September. Both courses have proven to be popular and there are only a few spaces left.

Other food safety training available on the menu, which will focus on areas where scientific and technical knowledge is required to uphold excellent food safety standards, includes:

  1. Allergens
  2. HACCP in cheese making
  3. Sous Vide
  4. Shellfish Purification
  5. Micro criteria – focus on Listeria
  6. E.coli O157 guidance
  7. Vacuum Packing

Denise Donnelly, CIEH’s Events Manager, said: “Excellence in food safety is a key interest for the CIEH and we’re absolutely delighted to be delivery training for EHPs based in local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“We’ve got a whole host of activities coming up over the next few years and we’re aiming to help boost the knowledge of EHPs across England so they can keep food safe and secure for human consumption.”

Please note that these course are not available to students or for EHPs who are not employed by local authorities.
