Health Protection Regulations 2010 Toolkit

Published: July 2011 - revised 2015

Topics: Public Health

Types: Professional Guidance

Under the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984, as amended by the Health and Social Care Act 2008, a suite of new Health Protection Regulations came into effect in April 2010, covering notifications, local authority powers and Part 2A Orders.

The Department of Health and Public Health England, in consultation with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, has published guidance on the updated health protection legislation which provides both explanations of the regulations and example scenarios of where they may be applicable. The guidance can be found at

The purpose of this toolkit is not to duplicate that guidance, but to provide a ‘grab and go’ suite of documents that can be used by authorised officers to deal with practical situations when they arise.

The toolkit was produced through partnership working between Environmental Health at Lewes District Council, and Public Health England South East.
