CIEH Conversations: EHPs' expectations at temporary food stalls

This CIEH Conversation will explore how environmental health professionals approach temporary food stalls and outdoor events, with a particular focus on identifying where expectations and inspection practice may vary. Through facilitated discussion, audience polls and practical examples, the session will examine use of existing guidance, inspection variation feedback between local authorities, the involvement of independent EHPs, training needs and the sharing of paperwork and good practice. The session will be led by an independent EHP who has expertise in festival food safety and workplace standards.

The event is being held to understand practitioners’ current experience, identify areas where greater consistency or clearer support may be beneficial and gather proportionate evidence to inform future CIEH guidance or other practitioner-facing resources. It will also provide an opportunity to capture lessons from recent outdoor events and consider what advice could help event organisers, food traders, the public and environmental health teams manage expectations more effectively.
