This session provides an overview of Health Impact Assessment (HIA), what it is, the process and how it can add value to members work, in a proportionate way and provides a case study from environmental and public health practice.
The event will be open for CIEH members to attend. There will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end of the session.

Professor Liz Green, PhD, FFPH, ACIEH
Liz is a Consultant in Public Health for Policy and International Health and the Programme Director for HIA at Public Health Wales (PHW). She is an Honorary Professor at the Department of Geography and Planning, University of Liverpool and holds a PhD in ‘Health Impact Assessment (HIA) as a tool to mobilise Health in all Policies’ from Maastricht University, The Netherlands. She has extensive experience in HIA, ‘Health in All Policies’ including incorporating health into spatial planning processes and plans, and provides training, advice and guidance about HIA and other IA processes.
She has been recognized as a Woman of Influence 2022 by the RTPI Planner for her work in spatial planning and public health and is co-author of ‘Public Health Spatial Planning in Practice’ with Michael Chang.

Cheryl Williams Principal Public Health Practitioner (Policy and Impact Assessment)
Cheryl Williams is a Principal Public Health Practitioner at Public Health Wales, specialising in Health Impact Assessment (HIA) and its role in policy and planning. She works within the Wales Health Impact Assessment Support Unit (WHIASU), focusing on integrating health into spatial planning and supporting the use of HIA in practice. Cheryl has extensive experience across local government and public health, including roles supporting local authorities to embed health in planning policy. She holds Masters degrees in Town Planning and Public Health.
