CIEH Praises Government Commitment to Update HHSRS
Responding to the publication of the Government’s review into the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), CIEH has praised the Government’s commitment to updating the system.
HHSRS is a risk-based evaluation tool to help local authorities identify and protect against potential risks and hazards to health and safety in residential housing.
The Government’s review of the system confirmed that the operating and enforcement guidance will be reviewed and updated, as well as worked examples.
It also outlined that new standards will be developed, and existing standards extended and incorporated into HHSRS.
Tamara Sandoul, Housing Policy Spokesperson at CIEH, said:
“We strongly welcome the Government’s commitment to update the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and its associated guidance.
Focus on this vital assessment of housing conditions has been long overdue and the commitment to develop further standards for housing is also welcome. We look forward to working closely with the Government to ensure that the voice of housing professionals is a key part of this major update.”
