SNP’s Pledge to Protect UK Environment a Positive Step

06 December 2019, Ross Matthewman

CIEH has welcomed the manifesto commitment from the SNP to protect the UK’s environmental standards at Westminster.

In their manifesto, the SNP pledged to continue to fight to protect and enhance the UK’s environment, alongside upholding the country’s commitment to tackling climate change.

The Party’s manifesto also made a number of pledges in essential policy areas championed by CIEH in its Manifesto for Environmental Health. These include maintaining the UK’s food safety standards and a continuing commitment to improve energy efficiency in the housing sector.

Anne Godfrey, CIEH Chief Executive, said:

“CIEH has been absolutely clear that the UK’s food and environmental standards must be maintained and ideally enhanced as we move forwards as a country.

Brexit cannot be used as an excuse to reduce these standards.

We welcome the SNP’s commitment to being a voice at Westminster to enhance our environment.

We continue to call on all political parties to commit to supporting environmental health and the policies in our manifesto.”
