CIEH profoundly concerned by the FSA's National Level Regulation proposal

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) has expressed significant concern about the Food Standards Agency's (FSA) case for National Level Regulation. Following the publication of the FSA's Board meeting papers, on 5 September 2024, the CIEH notes the potential for a change in the food safety delivery model.

The proposed national regulation could see the responsibility for food hygiene inspections of national retailers removed from local authorities. This is of profound concern as this change has many potential consequences that may impact on public health. We are now urgently working to thoroughly assess the implications of these proposals and to develop an informed and robust response to the proposals.
