CIEH make two new senior appointments to support its work representing the Environmental Health profession

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) is excited to announce two key interim appointments to help shape the direction of its important work in the coming months.

We are thrilled to welcome Ian Andrews to the pivotal role of Interim Head of Environment Health, and Richard Fernandez to the role of Interim Head of Policy and External Affairs. Richard has already started at CIEH, while Ian is set to join us in March.

Ian brings extensive and valuable experience to his new role and joins CIEH after spending time as a Head of Service in a London Borough and is a former chair of the national Food Hygiene Focus Group (FHFG).

He has previously worked on secondment to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), as well as for several local authorities in the Midlands, where he was a local Branch Secretary.

Over the past 12 months he has also worked with other EHPs as part of Operation Jigsaw, a project funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and hosted by Powys County Council in Wales.

Ian also has experience working in a Primary Authority context.

Richard joins CIEH from the Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA), the trade body for the public relations, communications and public affairs industry, where he was External and Public Affairs Director.

Previously in his career he has held senior communications roles in a variety of health-related organisations, including a national volunteering charity, a professional Royal College and a think tank, working across public affairs, issues and stakeholder management, advocacy and campaigning.
