Overview

In module one of our ship sanitation series, we will discuss the aims and provisions of the International Health Regulations (IHR), in relation to ship inspections and points of entry. We will cover the key legal provisions of the IHR, charging mechanisms, and practical aspects of planning inspections – before boarding, on-board and after disembarkation.

This training event is recommended for those who are relatively new to ship inspection or looking for an overview of the application of the IHR in relation to ship sanitation inspections.

Bookings are also open for module two and module three in our ship sanitation series. These modules will focus on specific technical aspects, including water systems and sewage treatment.

Each module is stand-alone and you don’t have to attend all of them. You are welcome to book a specific module or you can book onto all three to immerse yourself in the entire series.

Objectives

  • Explore the role and purpose of key provisions of the IHR as they affect port health/local authorities engaged in ship sanitation
  • Consider best practices and inspection techniques to effectively carry out ship sanitation inspections in relation to the WHO ‘Handbook for Inspection of Ships and Issuance of Ship Sanitation Certificates’
  • Improve your understanding of the legal and financial framework

What past delegates thought:

“All of it. A good account of the types of certificates that can be issued, how to check issuing authorities, applying IHR during inspection etc.”

Who should attend

  • Port Health/Environmental Health Officers
  • Authorised officers engaged in ship sanitation inspections
  • Managers responsible for overseeing ship sanitation inspections
  • Others with a general interest in ship sanitation

CPD: 2 hours
