Food safety and fraud are related and are age-old problems that reoccur periodically in the global food supply putting consumers at risk. The prevention of food related incidents is paramount to protect the trust of our consumers and to maintain fair, sustainable business practices. No process can guarantee that food and food supply are not the target of poor food safety and criminal activity.
The purpose of this CIEH Conversations event is to act as a guide through approaches and processes to improve the resilience of supply networks to food fraud.
Selvarani will talk about the Government Chemist function and how it supports consumer protection and provides businesses with a route of scientific appeal as part of the UK official control system. She will then use the majority of her presentation to describe the open access Food Authenticity Network (www.foodauthenticity.global) and how it is helping prevent food fraud in the global food supply.
Sterling and Selvarani will look at the common factors in some recent cases and explain how risks can be mitigated to reduce vulnerability to incidents and assure the safety and authenticity of food.
