The Environmental Health Research Awards celebrate outstanding student research from accredited BSc and MSc programmes. Sponsored by former President Tim Everett, these annual awards recognise work that demonstrates originality, excellence, and the potential to improve public health.

What we look for

Submissions are judged on the following criteria:

  • Overall excellence
  • Originality and innovation, whether in educational or regulatory contexts (from either the public or private sector viewpoint)
  • Outcomes likely to improve public health
  • MSc only: The ability for it to be applied in different settings and with limited resources

Winning entries are published on this page to inspire interest in high-quality research.

BSc Environmental Health Excellence Award

Open to students from accredited BSc and BSc apprenticeship programmes. Course leaders may submit up to two dissertations or projects per year.

  • Prize: £1000 cash award for one winner annually
  • Judges: Tim Everett, Dr Dan Drage (University of Birmingham), Lindsay Shaw (Ulster University)

BSc research award winners and commendations

MSc Environmental Health Research Award

Open to students from accredited MSc programmes. Course leaders may submit up to three dissertations or projects per year.

  • Prize: £1000 cash award for one winner annually
  • Judges: Tim Everett, Lindsay Shaw (Ulster University), Graeme Mitchell (Liverpool John Moores University)
