Health and Safety Advisory Panel

This panel advises us on health and safety policy and campaigns.

CIEH's advisory panels are set up across five key areas of work. Our Health and Safety Advisory Panel helps us to form our policy position, advises us on consultation responses and submissions as well as feeding in a source of expertise and knowledge to our policy work and campaigns. Where possible, we will also go out to our wider membership for input into policy work. These opportunities will be advertised via our health and safety newsletter.

Our panels include representatives from all regions and nations of the UK and whilst we look for experience, passion and expertise from applicants, we are also keen that a variety of levels within the profession are represented on these groups, so that our work is informed by a variety of perspectives and experiences. Everyone on the panel is a CIEH member and work with us on a volunteer basis.

Current areas of work

The panel advises us on our health and safety policy and members of the panel represent us on various groups, such as British Standards Institution's HS1 Committee.

CIEH are members of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Local Authority Health and Safety Practitioners Forum and HELA.

Earlier this year, a member of this panel gave oral evidence to the House of Commons Petitions Committee to assist with their inquiry into the regulation of fireworks.

Our policy objectives are to:

  • Ensure health and safety is considered in all areas of government policy making.
  • Encourage businesses - the duty holders for health and safety - to meet their obligations and protect workers and the public.
  • Improve the capability, competence and expertise of CIEH members to work towards improving public health.
