The Environmental Protection Advisory Panel has set up three Satellite Panels to break down barriers and harness the collective expertise of the environmental health profession.

The purpose of these panels is to utilise our members' expertise, experience and talents to inform CIEH's work on key issues impacting environmental health – from the unintended consequences of climate policies and brownfield development pressures to noise and air quality.

These panels will also seek to provide personal and professional development, allowing members to network with a diverse group, and provide a productive space to advocate for environmental health.

The Panels are on climate change, planning and noise:

Objectives:

  • To analyse how current climate emergency policies could create unintended consequences for environmental health and the work of the profession.
  • To identify potential solutions and develop policy recommendations to inform climate mitigation policies.
  • To inform CIEH's wider work around environmental health's role within climate change.

Objectives:

  • Inform CIEH's wider work around the planning systems.
  • Conduct a baseline review of current CIEH technical guidance.
  • Provide technical guidance to members to:
    • Support upon current areas of pressure, such as brownfield regeneration.
    • Assist with the regulatory review of reports submitted through the planning regime.
    • Embed noise and air quality concerns throughout the design process and promote ‘good practice’.
  • Provide wider guidance and expertise around land contamination, and the wider health impact assessments within planning.

Objectives:

  • Understand the current barriers preventing consistency around enforcing current air and noise quality targets and regulations and review current guidance surrounding this.
  • Review the Neglected Pollutants report recommendations.
  • Raise awareness of potential SCA models and current issues around resourcing and misinformation.
  • Inform CIEH's policy position and wider work on noise pollution

Further information can also be found in the Terms of Reference document.

These panels aim to be as diverse and inclusive as possible, bringing together voices from across CIEH’s membership to discuss and shape our approach to these critical issues.

We have a maximum capacity of 30 spaces per panel.

If we receive more than 30 applications for a panel, we will use your statement to assess your suitability. This evaluation will consider your interest in the topic area, your experience and expertise in climate change, noise, or planning-related work, and your ability to meet the necessary time commitments.
